Cyanotype Printing

About this class

We'll learn how to make cyanotype prints, exploring a photographic process from the 1840s. (It's the original "blue" in "blueprint.") Cyanotype is affordable, forgiving, and easy. The only equipment you'll need is a paintbrush, sunlight, and a sink. Cyanotype's once again become popular, especially among artists and experimenters who want to escape from the limitations of digital work. We'll be making prints of objects, so bring materials with interesting outlines – things like leaves, plastic containers, cut-out letters, and lace. You can try making prints from digital images, but you'll have to do some homework before class. No photographic experience is required.
